Another example of the types of systemic identity politics engulfing the United States from the “Majority” populace’s desire to sustain cultural, linguistic, religious, political, and economic power which emerging diverse populations are viewed to have threatened.

The question of racism in America too often obscures the issues of class struggle. Racism is and has been proven to be a permanent feature of American capital, conveniently and artificially divisive ever since its conception in justifying the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. This question has to be contextualized in light of global capital. The straight facts are in the 21st Century, the American Bourgeoisie, the owning/ruling class could care less what color any worker is, as long as his or her labor can be fully exploited to produce surplus value, which then translates into maximization of profits at all costs. All workers must learn how this society is organized, regardless of color. Few workers even understand the production and circulation of goods and services and how that impacts their lives, how and where they live, work, teach, learn and reproduce themselves. Understanding this process will then deepen understanding of the role race plays in keeping workers oppressed. Then and only then, by looking at class relations, can any dialogue regarding race become meaningful and less emotionally guided. Uniting with workers of all ethnic stripes or so-called color is paramount. The Civil Rights Act provided a gateway for the Black so-called ‘elites’ to escape into expanding capital. In fact, it was conveniently passed to allow Blacks wider access to consume commodities, goods and services. The Civil War was fought for the same reason: the industrializing North could not compete with slave labor. Slaves had no money to spend! They could not consume!..Capitalism needs consumers and thrives on war and destruction – your color is inconsequential. The school to prison pipeline that has existed for years (in all poor communities, not just Black) is a convenient way to recapture cheap, redundant, surplus labor. Advancing technology must have a reserve army of unemployed workers, so some will be allowed access to fill this need. Highly educated , technically skilled Taiwanese workers are being allowed to enter the country without visas to drive down American workers wages. This supply used to come from India and still does. This is how capital works. Poor people of any color no longer matter, unless they can consume. The current crisis reveals the contradiction within capital – the more people become impoverished due to advancing technology, the less people there are able to consume. So the privatization of prisons becomes a profit motivated necessity. Unions are being outlawed and attacked to prevent workers from organizing. Charter schools don’t exist in rich neighborhoods. Debt laden students cannot earn enough to repay student loans. The color question remains, obscuring the socio-economic and political realities but is secondary to working class unity and struggle across America. The ruling class could care less what color Obama is as long as he carries out their policies, by any means necessary.
I think people are grossly overlooking that fact that while race is a dividing factor to an extent, America is struggling together. The bad economy basically galvanized the american people because we are being affected simultaneously by the same issues. The way race divided America in the past, is the way Class divides us now and if a candidate can relate to the bulk of the population, which is the Middle class, then he is going to win.
It is the Middle class that comprises the largest and most vocal voting block. It is also the middle class that carries the country tax wise. So while Romney is already alienated from the majority of America by class (Ann claimed to be able to relate to the average mother ….but she had 5 nannies at the same time), He (Romney), further alienated himself with his comments, the people he aimed his campaign at, and by just being his natural elitist self……Did he honestly expect the people that his campaign virtually IGNORED to vote for him? Talk about Self Important and the epitome of delusional!!! ———————————-This message is approved and written by : Michael Al Lewis. 🙂
